Mark Ryden & The Meat Show

This is the same joyous feeling I have when walking into 99 Ranch Market's meat section or any of the chinese zoos (chinese BBQ restaurants like Sam Woo). It's like a candy shop to me. This painting is by one of my favorites, Mark Ryden, in his older exhibits called "The Meat Show" and "Wondertoonel". The whole exhibition consisted of 18+ paintings with freshly-cut meat as the subject. Here's the link. Anyway, for anyone interested in this style of art, Ryden has a new exhibit at the Michael Kohn Gallery, called "The Tree Show". Afterwards, go drink some MILK!

I had no idea. I just finished browsing through the site. Beautiful, disturbing, and thoroughly mesmerizing work. Thanks for sharing.

MS and I enjoyed his Alice in Wonderland painting at the Art Center's Illustrations exhibit a couple years back. :)

I love Mark Ryden - a few years back, I tried to buy one of his (more) affordable book of re-prints, but they were all sold out. I know he probably won't like this, but I printed a series of thumbnail, passport photo-sized contact sheets on the hi-res color printer at work and created a series of strips I glue-sticked to my fridge, to remind me of the surreal experience that is eating the flesh of animals.

His Christina Ricci portraits are sublime.

J, we have till mid-april to see.

Elmo, glad you took a look at his site. The subject matter is sometimes difficult to comprehend, but the surrealness of the art is simply captivating. Ryden is a man of extensive detail.

Bola, I think I've seen a few pieces of that exhibit.

GC, I am tempted to do the same. I am obsessed with those meat paintings haha.

Yuzu, I don't think many vegetarians surf this blog anyway. It's a digital graveyard for delicious animal meat.

Ooh I like it. Btw, have you heard of this guy named Craola? He has some cool stuff too:
